Spring box

Suspending equipment, frames or bases using spring boxes can be done using two methods :

Active isolation (isolation from vibrations generated by the suspended equipment), particularly in metal processing industries and factories. The current suspensions used for turbines, pumps, fan units and generator sets are based on the same principle as the spring boxes used for isolating power hammers and presses..

Passive isolation (isolation from vibrations transmitted to the suspended equipment) in order to protect sensitive equipment and foundations from neighbouring disturbances such as those generated by industrial machinery or traffic. These protective measures can even be used to combat against the effects of earthquakes or aerodynamic forces due to the wind..

Our anti-vibration spring boxes consist of a combination of high-strength helical springs and Socitec Polycal® wire rope isolators.

There are 2 models of Socitec Polycal spring boxes :

Prestressed Polycal spring box (BRP) : These elements can be prestressed to a predetermined degree and force value. The spring box is then considered to be a rigid element during the assembly of materials. The anti-vibration function becomes active once installation has been completed. The levelling and alignment are carried out in a straightforward manner without having to raise either the equipment or its support.

Non-prestressed Polycal spring box (BRS, RP) : You always have to raise the equipment suspended beforehand in the event of carrying out levelling, alignment or replacement of the suspension.

The spring box is usually fastened using screws. However, for completely stationary applications, a non-slip elastomer mat glued on the support surface is sufficient for providing good support for the suspension.

The springs and the metal interfaces are treated with anti-corrosive paint.

Socitec Polycal® is a non-linear elastic element that uses dry friction and works in all directions. The shock absorption force varies depending on movement within the isolator, rather than on speed, as viscous elements. Socitec Polycal® can be used :
• Separately, in parallel with a “pure” spring box
• Or integrated directly into the spring box (Polycal® Box/Spring combination)

Socitec also has measuring equipment for recording the vibration levels on site. These data are then used in order to assess the situation and to validate recommendations enabling improvements to the mechanical behaviour.
