For reasons relating to performance gains and costs savings, “COTS” hardware is increasingly being used in all fields, and particularly in the military sector.
The onboard electronic and IT hardware has to be installed within an envelope that must ensure its protection and must therefore be compatible with environmental conditions in terms of shocks, vibrations, EMC, temperatures and so forth, as set out in the specifications.
The partnership between the firms Schroff and Socitec enables sets of suspended bays to be offered which fulfil these various criteria with the following characteristics :
• Based on a standard bay structure, a simulation using finite elements calculation is carried out, integrating the mechanical constraints, in such a way as to offer the reinforcements required for it to be strong enough. This solution offers the advantage of maintaining a light, sturdy structure whilst at the same time offering an attractive price, and reduced study times. Furthermore, this solution enables use of the numerous standard accessories available in the catalogue.
• Assembly of a suspension unit consisting of Socitec elastomer mountings or wire rope isolators (the wire rope or elastomer solution is selected depending on the specifications) enables :
- The hardware to be protected from vibrations
- The residual accelerations resulting from shocks to be transmitted as little as possible in order to minimise the constraints within the structure and on the hardware’s fastening points.
Definitions for the suspension can be executed in accordance with any type of specifications or military or civil standards (GAM EG13, EN, MIL, BV, BR, etc.)
• Should there be an EMC requirement, the choice of bay may be oriented based on one of the HF versions of the Schroff standard unit.
Applications can cover fields as varied as the naval sector, land or air transport, the nuclear industry, earthquake technology, etc...
