Type X mounting

• The type X mounting was originally developed in Scotland in an MOD (Ministry of Defence) research establishment in order to protect electronic equipment from shocks due to underwater explosions. Nowadays, it is commonly used for active and passive isolation for all naval equipment from shocks and vibrations.

• It consists of strips of stainless steel bent into a U shape, held together by interface plates, and filled with epoxy resin with shock absorption properties. It can be covered with neoprene or other paint, and is supplied with thrust washers made of nylon and stainless steel in order to reduce noise transmission.

• The type Y mounting is an extension of the type X range by adding a layer of elastomer in order to eliminate audible noise frequencies.

• Socitec type X mountings can easily withstand shocks with an amplitude exceeding 100g and 40g 40ms jolts within a temperature range of -40°C to +70°C.

• In order overcome maintenance constraints and loss of performance constraints linked to temperatures and ageing, Socitec offers the type SAX, a type X mounting made entirely of metal. The principle used is the same as for wire rope isolators in which the shock absorption qualities are obtained by dry friction between the cable strands as a replacement for epoxy resin.
